Viva LaLaWood!

Yay! thanks to the kind folks at Blogger, LaLaWood is back online. There was a dumb bug, and they fixed it. Now I can post, and those of you who care about reading about my life can continue to do so. Stay tuned for more stuff, ok? In the meantime, holla at me. How are you all? I miss my LaLaWood-ians.

I'm Back!

Hi folks! So sorry that I've been so negligent in posting. I've been incredibly busy with school. I have a Statistics test on Monday, and a presentation on Tuesday. I'm pretty swamped every week, but it's not un-doable. I will give you all more details about my fabulous life in grad school if you would like. So tell me if you want to know, ok? :)

Some thoughts while I've got your attention:

- I am so sad that John Ritter and Robert Palmer have passed away. The film & music industries have lost two great men.

- Justin Timberlake's CD is pretty booty-shakin'. My roommate burned a copy for me. Shhh... don't tell anyone. ;) It's really good, if you don't have it.

- Excel is your best friend when you're doing minor statistical analyses.

My Faux Pas

Last night, I went to a lovely orientation/party at my mentor's house, to welcome the new Master's students. It was a really lovely evening, and I met a lot of nice people. Being in this MA program really makes you feel like you're a part of something. My mentor has an adorable 5-year old daughter who was all jazzed up from her first day of Kindergarten. She was sweet as pie, and she drew me a picture of myself. We "blasted off to the moon" together on a very large puppy shaped pillow. I definitely think I made the right choice about working with children. :)

However, an embarrassing moment happened just as my ride was dropping me off back to the dorms. I hadn't worn the skirt I was wearing since last Thanksgiving. As you all know, I've lost about 13 pounds since that time, so it was a little loose on me. So, as I'm getting out of the car, it drops right down to the ground. Oh my goodness was my face red! Thank God I was wearing nylons!! Grr.. stuff like that only happens to me. And I also have to grapple with the fact that a really cute guy in two of my classes (and a fellow Jew, too!) has a girlfriend. Such is life, my friends.

Welcome To The Working Week

Hi folks! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I've been absolutely crazed already. Move-in to the dorms was pretty good, but had its own drama. To make a long story short.. my roommate is sweet, and so is one of my other housemates. We live with an older psycho lady who refuses to flush the toilet at night, but we're all gonna work on getting used to it.

As for my classes, I can tell I'm really gonna have my hands full. I have presentations and weekly papers to write for my seminars, and lots of reading and lab time for my Advanced Statistics class. I haven't even spoken to my mentor yet about getting involved with some research projects. I'll probably get that all started next week, and I will be at her house for an orientation party anyway.

I promise I'll try to update you more often on what's been going on in my fabulous life. So, how have you been? I've missed you.

Sneak Preview of My Next 2 Years

Yesterday, I went up to the campus of my grad school. I had a little meeting with the Professor who will be helping me get my research off the ground. She seems very nice, by the way. I was very impressed with the campus. It was very collegiate and important-looking, without being intimidating. A far cry from when I attended
Santa Monica College and UC Santa Cruz, which were like high school with cigarettes and sleepaway camp, respectively. I was a little concerned that the on-campus housing was so far away from where my classes will be, but I was relieved to discover that there's a shuttle system. My itsy-bits legs can only carry me so far!

I'm really excited about this, and optimistic that it could turn out to be a very positive experience. The Psychology department is relatively small, so I'll be able to "network" for letters of recommendations when I apply to Doctoral programs. But you know what the best part is going to be? There's a Krispy Kreme and Burger King on campus, within 5 feet of each other. Two words: awwww yeah!

Last Weekend of Freedom!

*Cue "Jaws" theme song* Oh boy, am I nervous. This time, next week, I'll be all moved in to my new apartment up at school. Classes start on the 25th. I know these are all good things, but I can't help feeling a little knot in my stomach. There's a certain dignified air about being a graduate student (even if it is just a Master's program) that I hope I can live up to. I promise to keep you posted about everything that's going on. I'll think of some fun things to share with you before I go. :)
